Because of the fires, we were forced to cancel our Sheriff candidate forum. We will reschedule in the spring.
We are resuming our speaker series and out next event will be on Wednesday, November 29th at 7:00 p.m. Our speaker will be Eric Roeser who is the Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector for Sonoma County. He will discuss exactly what his job is and the responsibilities of the department. Join us and get all your questions answered.
We will be planning for our Lincoln Day Dinner which will take place on Wednesday, February 21st 2018 at the Flamingo Hotel. Our guest speaker will be State Senator Janet Nguyen. Keep watching our web site for all the details.
There are two efforts being made state wide regarding important legislative issues.
Tom Palzer is attempting to get the signatures needed to put an initiative on the 2018 ballot regarding repeal of Proposition 14 which is the Top Two measure passed in 2011.
This measure limits ballot choices in the general election to the top two vote getters in the primary. We are looking for a county coordinator to form a team to gather the needed signatures.
The other issue we are working on is repeal of the gas tax and the significant increase in automobile registration. The tax on each gallon of gasoline went up 12 cents on November 1st. The story from the Legislature is that the money will go for roads.
Unfortunately, unless the money goes into an earmarked fund, the money will go into the general fund. All the gas tax money collected in past years has gone into the general fund where it is often spent on things that have nothing to do with road repair.
We will soon be sending out information on activities related to the repeal of the gas tax.
As we all work to rebuild our county and our lives let us look forward to a blessed Thanksgiving.
Best regards,
