The past week we have had a great deal of news about Donald Trump and Khizer M. Kahn the father of fallen soldier Captain Humayun Khan. It is necessary to remember that anyone who speaks at a political convention is there for a variety of reasons. The reason for Khizer M. Khan to speak became apparent after the storm started. He was there to attack Donald Trump on the issue of a supposed ban on Muslims coming into the United States. Mr. Khan dramatically pulled out a U.S. constitution and wondered if Donald Trump had ever read it. The whole event was very dramatic and made the news hounds very happy.
Now there is no question that losing a child is an incredible tragedy and the hurt stays forever. However, as usual there is more to the story. It turns out that Khizr M. Khan is a lawyer who has published papers supporting the supremacy of Islamic law over “man-made” Western law including the United States Constitution. That is, he is a supporter of Sharia law. He has also been a contributor to the Clinton foundation.
There has been an ongoing argument about whether or not to allow Middle East refugees into the United States. Actually, the real issue in vetting refugees has to do with Sharia law.
It is necessary to remember that Islam is not just a religion. It is a complete civilization with a detailed political system, religion and a legal code – the Sharia.
What exactly is Sharia law? Sharia is a code of laws and rules governing the life and behavior of Muslims. It is not a single book but various compilations of precedents that are based on the actions and sayings of the prophet Mohammad.
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution allows for freedom of religious expression. Article IV of the Constitution states: “No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”
Sharia law, based on the Quran, demands strict adherence to only one religion –Islam. The Islamic World League has stated it has an objective to make the whole world Islamic by 2080.
Sharia law is practiced in many countries. In each country there are variations as to how it is implemented. Sharia law is moving into daily life in the United States.
Dr. Ben Carson created a firestorm when he stated that he believed Islam was not consistent with the U.S. Constitution and “absolutely would not agree with an American Muslim being elected President.” Carson conflated being a Muslim with being an adherent of fundamentalist Sharia law, saying, “I do not believe Sharia is consistent with the Constitution of this country.” Dr. Carson clarified that he would make an exception if a Muslim running for office “publicly rejected all the tenets of Sharia “but warned that some Islamic practices encourage Muslims to “lie to achieve their goals.” This practice is known as Taqiyya which is religious deception, lying to further the cause of Islam. It is a common and highly regarded trait.
Here are some of the problems with Sharia law. Women are second class citizens according to Sharia. Honor killings are applauded and occur when a family member has done something considered to be against Islam such as a Muslim girl dating a non-Muslim man. Honor killings are happening in the United States. Homosexuality in many countries is punishable by death. The extent of various regulations and the punishments that are designated vary from country to country.
Sharia to a faithful Muslim is more important than any constitution. In a conflict between Sharia and the U.S. Constitution, Sharia wins. Someone who believes in Sharia law will at times be in direct disagreement with the U.S. Constitution. A person with those beliefs cannot be President of the United States because they would not be prepared to uphold the Constitution above any other form of government. This is not a religious test. It is a test of adherence to the Constitution.
If Muslims wish to practice their faith and live by the laws of the United States with no violations of the Constitution then there should be no barriers to becoming United States citizens.
Many Americans believe that the United States Constitution is a gift from God. It is the foundation of our country and is what makes the United States unique and free. Any system of government that undermines our constitution can not be tolerated. To allow such a system into our country is to commit suicide.
