SUPREME COURT UPDATE
The Supreme Court issued a variety of rulings at the end of this term. Two decisions are very important for citizen rights.
In a 6 to 3 decision, the court ruled that California can’t force farm owners to give union organizers access to their fields. The reason that union organizers want access to the fields
is to sign workers up for the union. The decision enforces the concept of property rights.
For years California has told nonprofits they must identify the lists of major donors if they wanted to do business in the state. The state of California had petitioned the Supreme Court for the right to obtain the names of all doners to various charities and organizations including causes such as gun rights, abortion or religious liberty. This would have meant forced disclosure of nonprofit donors. By a vote of 6 to 3 the Court voted against this effort in Americans for Prosperity Foundation versus Bonta. Private organizations will not be forced to give their donor lists to the state.
SURPRISE IN HEAVEN
I dreamt death came the other night
And Heaven’s gate swung wide, An Angel with halo bright Ushered me inside.
And there! To my astonishment,
Stood folks I’d judged and labeled;
As “quite unfit”; “of little worth”;
And “spiritually disabled.”
Indignant words rose to my lips
But never were set free,
For every face showed stunned surprise-
NOT ONE EXPECTED ME!
