Just what is Racism?

The word “racism” is certainly being used and shouted all over the place in these United States.

What is the definition of racism?

“Racism is the practice of according rights and privileges to an individual based not on equality under the law, but rather according to what race that person was born.”

This entire concept of according rights and privileges based on your birth status is anathema to what the United States stands for.  We fought a Civil War to remove this blight of slavery from our country. America was born into a world where slavery was an established institution around the world.  The founding fathers hoped that slavery would end in America.  In his address at Cooper Union Abraham Lincoln spoke of how the Founders had placed certain principles in the founding documents.  They were confident those principles would ultimately place slavery on a course of extinction.  It might be useful to understand that ending slavery was not so simple as freeing everyone and telling them to get a job down at the local hardware store.  The Founders believed that the whole system would wither.  The invention of the cotton gin radically changed the demand for cotton.  Suddenly, cotton was worth a lot more money and more labor was needed in the southern states.

So, has anything changed in the thinking in Washington?  The House Judiciary Committee (run by Democrats) recently adopted a measure on a party line vote to establish a commission with the avowed purpose of enshrining racism into law under the guise of slavery reparations.

This legislation (HR 40) states the following:  “To address the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the 13 colonies between 1619 and 1865 and to establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery, its subsequent de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African Americans, to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies and for other purposes.”

Imagine what this legislation means.  The government would force people who never owned slaves to pay reparations to people who never were slaves.  This would be based on nothing but what race they were born.  That is something no one has any control over.

Now, racism does not only extend to “racial minorities.”  Jews have been the recipients of unbelievable suffering throughout history.  Most recently Hitler’s atrocities are there for us to remember.  Well, it seems that California and specifically Los Angeles are going to solve all the racial problems in the world.

In  2021, Governor Newsom signed a law requiring public-school students in California to complete a course in ethnic studies to graduate from high school.  He said it was needed because “students deserve to see themselves in their studies and they must understand our nation’s full history if we expect them to one day build a more just society.”

Let’s remember: Ethnic studies was a creature of 1960’s radical left-wing activism.  From the very beginning, ethnic studies was about attacking United States capitalism and Zionism.

Public school teachers, union officials and other ideologues have formed the Liberated Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum Consortium.  This group disseminates teaching materials lifted directly from radical anti-Israel websites.  This group does not believe that all cultures should be studied.  It claims that ethnic studies is about four groups: Native Americans, Black Americans, Chicano/Latinos and Asian-Americans/Pacific Islanders.  They have included Arabs from the Middle East in the last group but do not include Jews who have lived in that region for millennia.

The consortium has used materials which have been taken offline in recent months.  These materials are filled with attacks on Jews and the Jewish state.  This group denies that Jews are indigenous to the Middle East and teach that Israel is a “colonialist” and “settler state” founded through “genocide,” “ethnic cleansing” and “apartheid.”

California law requires that publicly funded teaching materials be public so that the public know what it is paying for.  However, the consortium instructs teachers to ignore that mandate.  Classes instructing teachers about the curriculum are by invitation only.

A group of Jewish public school parents and teachers filed a federal lawsuit challenging the use of this ethnic studies material in Los Angeles public schools.  The lawsuit has two goals:  removal of teaching materials denouncing the plaintiff’s’ sincerely held religious beliefs and public disclosure of all ethnic-studies materials in Los Angeles public schools.

Voters need to be informed about the Liberated Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum Consortium whose proponents are trying to get into all California schools.

Let’s ask a question: Why do some groups in the country focus completely on race and all the negatives?  Is there some plan to fix all problems in the country that revolve around race?  Is the way these groups operate have other goals?

Constant discourse about race does not solve the challenges many minorities face. Solving problems means building a better economy, better schools and ensuring a safer country.

All of the continual national discussion about the differences in the country and how bad things are for some groups does not add to national unity.  Maybe it is not supposed to.  Is it possible that there are people in the country who want disunity and discord so they can eventually reorganize the country the way they would like it?  Could there be people who want to rewrite the constitution so that some parts of it are removed and more “progressive” items are added?

The restructuring of America can only happen with the total breakdown of our current system.  That is why citizens need to be alert and prepared to fight this conflict and work to maintain the American dream.
