Change at Santa Rosa Junior College
With the retirement of President Frank Chong at Santa Rosa Junior College selection of a new President was on the agenda. The selection has been made and Maria Angelica Garcia, the current President of Berkeley City College is the new Santa Rosa Junior College President.
The Santa Rosa Junior College Board conducted a nationwide search. Ms. Garcia has been described in a college announcement as “an equity-minded educational leader who is passionate about issues of access, equity and student success in higher education. She believes that community colleges serves as pathways to liberation and upward social mobility for historically minoritized communities.
Dr. Garcia received her doctorate in educational leadership from Santa Francisco State University. She received her Master in Social Work from San Diego State University and her Bachelor degree from St. Mary’s College of California where she graduated in 1998.
