What is an immigrant?  An immigrant is a person who migrates to another country, usually for permanent residence.  Immigrants are motivated to leave their countries of birth or habitual residence for a variety of reasons.  These reasons may include a desire for economic prosperity, family reunification, retirement, escape from tyranny, conflict or natural disaster.

When a person leaves their country to settle permanently in another one, they are called migrants or immigrants.  The country they leave considers that they have emigrated. 

In the United States Immigration and Nationality Act, an immigrant is an individual who seeks to become a Lawful Permanent Resident in the United States.

Why have so many people from around the world made unbelievable sacrifices to get to the United States?  People came because the goals and ideology that the United States was built on were virtually unpracticed or unavailable in the rest of the world.  Did America always live up to the goals and legal structure that the country was founded on?  Of course not.  Human beings are just that: human.  Lofty goals are usually achieved after a sometimes tedious and difficult route.  However, the goal of freedom and individual choice has been present in the United States virtually unlike any other country on earth. 

Although there have been difficult times in our history as we worked towards achieving our goals of freedom and individual rights the country has always had the lofty goals of freedom and striving to guarantee the individual freedom of each citizen.

Most unfortunately, there have been many incidents of people at all levels of society dealing with the restriction of their freedom.  Today, we have an example of incredible invasion of our freedom and right to free speech.

Some of the crowds that entered the United States capitol on January 6, 2021 were definitely a rather rowdy bunch.  Some walked in because the capitol police opened the doors for them.  Some were in bizarre outfits which put them on center stage.  Was that behavior what is normally seen in the capitol?  No, it was not for many.  Decorum was missing.  However, there have been many leftist groups that have gone to the Capitol and protested about various things. There is also a very strong possibility that there were federal actors in the crowd who were working to rile up the crowd. 

The crowds at the capitol on January 6th are described by the left which includes elected officials and the media as an event that was worse than the Civil War (650,000 dead), Pearl Harbor (2,335 dead) and 9/11 (2,996 dead).  Really?  Three people died due to natural causes. The police officer who the media stated had been killed by being struck with a fire extinguisher actually died from a stroke.  The only person who was shot was Ashley Babbitt, an unarmed veteran.  The name of the police officer who shot her has still not been officially revealed.

Let’s look at what has been going on in American cities since May 2020.  Remember, many major cities have effectively done away with bail and seriously defunded their police departments.  In 2020 rioters burned down cities, looted to the tune of billions of dollars, assaulted people and killed more than 20 people.  None of this seemed to particularly upset the Democrat party.  Many of the criminals are out in public able to continue with their lives.  Murder continues unabated in cities like Chicago.

For many people arrested after the January 6th event at the capitol, the aftermath has been quite different.  People have been imprisoned for months in solitary confinement.  In order to get out of the government’s control, many of these people have been accepting grotesque plea bargains.  Many have been tracked across country by the use of facial recognition technology.

The January 6 protestors are only accused of violating the law in some way and it is based on evidence “only the government has access to.”  The 14,000 hours of surveillance footage captured by the Capitol security system on January 6th is under wraps, away from defendants and defense attorneys.  Only selected clips are used by the government to convince judges to keep people behind bars awaiting trials that could be months and maybe a year away from the original arrest.

The results for many of those arrested have been varied and often bizarre.  One grandmother who trespassed and “paraded” escaped from prison time by reading Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, Just Mercy and Schindler’s List.  Apparently, those readings satisfied the judge that her deprogramming and re-education were complete.

The attorney for Thomas Caldwell filed a motion to move his trial to the Western District of Virginia where fewer people “despise many things that traditional America stand for” and who have less “petulant intolerance for those with differing views.”

Mr. Caldwell is a Navy veteran who was outside the Capitol Building on January 6th.  He has been charged with four felony counts: conspiracy, obstruction of an official proceeding, entering and remaining in a restricted area and tampering with documents or proceedings. 

Is what is going on with the January 6th event in keeping with our constitution and our laws? Is this what the land of the free and the home of the brave looks like?  Is this any different from what goes on in a banana republic?

Currently, there are demonstrations going on all over Cuba.  Surprise!  The people are marching carrying the American flag.  This is the same flag that so many of our well paid and famous athletics turn their back on.  This is the flag that people born in America are busy burning and desecrating.  The people in Cuba who would love to be immigrants to this country apparently still honor the United States and our flag. 

There are people who are committed to destroying the United States and that wonderful gift from God: the Constitution.  That is why it is crucial that Americans at every level become involved in participating in their government either by being involved in government activities or by running for local offices such as school boards.

Those of us who are the children of immigrants know the sacrifices our parents made to be in America.  This country is a jewel in the history of mankind.  It must be preserved.
