In the United States, the term fourth estate is sometimes used to place the press alongside the three branches of government: legislative, executive and judicial. The fourth estate refers to the watchdog role of the press, one that is important to a functioning democracy.
What is the status of the press in some other countries? There are two main sources of news in Russia: Pravda (which means truth) and Izvestia (which means news). The joke that made the rounds in the former Soviet Union was that there was no truth in Pravda and no news in Izvestia.
These two large propaganda mills had one major objective: to guard, protect, lie for and defend at all costs the corrupt, elite ruling class in charge of a totalitarian government.
This brings up an interesting question. What is the objective of today’s major media in the United States: ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, FOX, Facebook, Twitter, ESPN, Google, The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Associated Press.
If you are an honest person who relies on history you might say to inform and educate the population. Oh, if that were only true in 2020.
The mainstream media in today’s United States appears to have one purpose: preserve and defend the current Democrat Party, the “deep state” which is the permanent government bureaucracy and the political and cultural juggernaut determined to tear down and transform what so many consider an unjust, immoral and racist country.
Where is the proof for these statements? Well, let’s start with Hunter Biden. The son of the Vice-President has quite a history, some of it rather steamy. He has been involved in questionable activities in the Ukraine and China. He has received huge amounts of money from China and $3 Million from the wife of the mayor of Moscow. This information only started to make the main stream news after the election.
There is documentary proof that Hillary Clinton was the person behind the Trump-Russia collusion hoax. The mainstream media totally ignored the story. They continue to talk about Donald Trump and Russia. Even after Robert Mueller’s report stating that there was no proof that Donald Trump had colluded with Russia the press continues to state that President Trump is in league with Russia over the United States.
Black Lives Matter, which is a communist-revolutionary group and Antifa burned, vandalized and looted many of American’s cities (interestingly all were run by Democrat office holders). Most of the media ignored what was happening in these cities or described them as peaceful protests against systemic racism and police brutality. In fact it was only when the polls started to affect Democrat ratings did the leaders of the Democrat party speak out against the vandalism and rioting.
Unfortunately, much of our media bias carries on in our local news. Our local papers carry for the most part, left wing writers who have one slant on the news. Most of all, Beware the Adjective. That is all it takes to slant a story. A true reporter reports the news. He or she is not in the story. Unless you are an advocacy writer the reader should not know the bias of the writer. Here is an example. David Nakamura in the Washington Post wrote an article about Dr. Fauci and events he did not attend. Part of the sentence in the article is “as Trump seeks to maintain power by leveling baseless accusations of voter fraud.” It is Mr. Nakamura’s opinion that the accusations are baseless. There are many opinions on the opposite side. The issue has not been determined.
What is most interesting is the fact that the deep-state conspirators who were behind the Trump-Russia collusion hoax joined the media. Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan, former FBI Director James Comey and former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe are now either paid cable news analyst or are on air as commentators. These people are paid to analyze theories and facts in which they themselves were often central players. Is it any wonder that these commentaries might be a little bit skewed?
Why is the mainstream media so far left and not concerned about loosing credibility? One reason is that activists on the left determined that “journalism” was the way to advance their cause. However, a far more important reason is Money. Once, there were conservatives speakers on various shows. Today, most of the media consists of radical left-wingers. MSNBC’s top brass decided that it would make more money if it focused on the far left. Things have gotten worse. United States multinational corporations now depend on China both for its market and its super cheap labor.
Mainstream news organizations are all owned by gigantic companies. AT&T owns CNN. Comcast owns NBC, CNBC and MSNBC. ViacomCBS owns CBS. Disney owns ABC and ESPN. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post. Every one of these companies has huge stakes in China.
Because of the huge financial interest in China the media has not covered the role of China in the pandemic. Knowledge of how the virus happened in China is not reported on and anyone disagreeing with the accepted story is banned from social media platforms in the United States.
There is one other reason for the media bias. Hate. The establishment hates Donald Trump because he is a genuine outsider who has invaded the “swamp.” He promised to drain the swamp of the monumental corruption, self-dealing and privilege that exists in the government insiders and their coterie of adoring fans. He is also hated because he has embraced a strong conservative Christian agenda.
Unfortunately, today’s mainstream media cannot be trusted with getting the truth out. They truly cannot be called the Fourth Estate protecting our democracy.
Here are some outlets and avenues for getting more complete and accurate information.
Unfreedom of the Press by Mark Levin – This book is a history of the various media outlets in the world and how those entrusted with news reporting in the modern media are destroying freedom of the press from within.
