If you listen only to the mainstream media and politically motivated speakers you would think that the January 6, 2021 chaos at the U.S. Capitol was the worst and only violent event that has ever happened at  the Capitol. A little history always helps.

There have been numerous attacks on the United States Capitol:

  • In 1814, during the War of 1812, British troops torched major rooms in the Capitol.  The exterior of the building survived.
  • In 1915, Erick Muenter, a Professor at Cornell University smuggled three sticks of dynamite in a suitcase into an area close to the Senate chambers.  The Senate was locked so he left the bomb in the reception room where it did go off.
  • On March 1, 1954, Puerto Rican nationalists smuggled guns into the capitol and opened fire. Five Congressmen were injured.  The perpetrators were sentenced to prison with terms ranging from 16 to 75 years. President Carter pardoned them.
  • In 1971, a bomb was planted in the capitol.  The bomb was placed by members of the Weather Underground in protest against the United States military involvement in Laos.  There were no injuries but there was $300,000 damage.
  • On November 7, 1983 a bomb was exploded outside the Senate office.  No one was hurt but there was $250,000 in damage.  Seven people were arrested.  They were demonstrating against United States involvement in Lebanon and Grenada.
  • On July 24, 1998, two Capitol Police officers were killed when they tried to stop an assailant breaking into the capitol.  The individual who committed the killing was an unstable individual and was judged incompetent to stand trial.

January 6, 2021 was a different event from the above listed attacks on the capitol.  Many of the people who were in the capitol walked in through open doors with the staff in the Capitol directing them.  Others pushed their way in through closed doors and through windows.  Of course, the subsequent violence was absolutely unacceptable.  Who the main perpetrators of the violence were is up for debate regardless of what the mainstream media writes.

However, other important issues need to be reviewed.  The Democrat party has carried on endlessly about the January 6thevent being an insurrection which Donald Trump either started, encouraged or totally ignored.

First of all, this is the definition of an insurrection according to the Merriam Webster dictionary. Insurrection:  an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government. The Cambridge Dictionary defines “insurrection” as “an organized attempt by a group of people to defeat their government and take control of their country, usually by violence.

The FBI found scant evidence that the January 6thattack on the United States Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials.

Reutersdid note that some “cells of protesters” including members of the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys did coordinate to “break into the Capitol,” but the FBI found “no evidence that the groups had serious plans about what to do if they made it inside.”

President Trump almost immediately called for an end to the violence but he did not condemn the participants.  Protesters entered the Capitol at 2:12 PM.  At 2:28 PM President Trump tweeted, “Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement.  They are truly on the side of our Country.  Stay peaceful!”  At 3:13 PM. the President added a note.  “I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, We are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”

Capitol police officers expected to be pulling extra duty on the 6thgiven the large numbers of people who would be in D.C.   Instead they were sent home for the day.  Dinesh D’Souza states that when Trump offered 10,000 National Guard troops to help because of the rally in town both Nancy Pelosi, who is charge of the U.S. Capitol and Muriel Bowser, D.C. mayor, turned down the offer. Currently, there are denials all over the media that Mr. Trump did not make that offer.

Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats have put together a committee to investigate January 6th even though multiple law enforcement agencies under the authority of the Department of Justice are investigating.  It is basically an illegitimate committee because the Speaker removed two of the Republicans Kevin McCarthy had appointed to the committee.  The remaining three Republicans rejected participating in what was a witch hunt.  Pelosi put Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger (who are not unbiased persons and virulently anti-Trump) on the committee without approval of the Republican leadership.

Most of the Democrat angst about January 6 is due to their effort to make sure that Donald Trump cannot run for President again.  They are trying every possible way to disqualify him so that he can never again be President.  In fact, there are Congressional Representatives who are trying to use the 14thamendment and disqualify some Republican Congressmen from running for office.

What is one of the most distressing parts of all these events?  In the opinion of many: the behaviorof the mainstream media. News is reported incorrectly with bias or not reported at all.  Freedom of the press means just that: Freedom.  When the journalism side of the media fails and the opinion side takes over a country suffers. We are then living a lie.

So much of the news about Donald Trump has been made up, exaggerated and good things have been ignored. This will not happen just to Donald Trump.  Candidates that the media do not like will get the same treatment.  This behavior is what identifies a country as a banana republic.

Our country deserves better. Voters need to pay attention to what is going on and work to save our country.  Demand that media adhere to finding the truth and reporting it.
