In 1862 President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation (freely more than 3 million slaves in the Confederacy) and a few years later Republican abolitionists followed by passing the 13th Amendment in 1865 (abolishing slavery in the US). I find it personally fitting that we as a country celebrate the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln as we also celebrate Black History Month.
Figures like Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, Martin Luther King Jr and so many others are true American Patriots who have forever shaped and blessed our great republic. Thank you, Happy Birthday President Abraham Lincoln and Happy President's Day!
