Protecting Our Rights as Citizens.
The United States was founded on the principles of self-government and freedom of citizens to run their country. That principle can only continue to exist if citizens participate in their government and pay attention to what is going on in their community and their country. That can only happen if citizens know what is going on in their community and if qualified people run for office.
There are many offices in a county that are filled by election. The highest offices are the five members of the Board of Supervisors. All of the council members of the nine cities in the county are elected. There are numerous boards including school boards, water boards and fire boards. In fact, there are forty school boards in Sonoma County. These boards are extremely important in determining the school curriculum. There are 8 Water Boards in the county with each having a number of seats. More Republicans need to get involved in local decisions.
