New Police Auditor

The consulting firm InterAssure has been selected to be Petaluma’s first independent police auditor.  InterAssure presented the following statements regarding their qualifications.  “Our experts are nationally recognized and have a proven track record of imagining, developing, implementing and overseeing best and promising practices and have extensive experience with California law enforcement agencies.”  The new role was partly in response to the 2020 murder of George Floyd in Minnesota.  Immediately after the 2020 incident Petaluma leaders established a 28 member Ad Hoc Community Advisory Committee made up of representatives from various groups in the community.  The committee identified nearly three dozen recommendations for the city including the use of independent citizen police oversight.  Staff members from the city manager’s office, city attorney’s office, police department and three Petaluma community leaders made the selection of

InterAssure after extensive interviews.

The contract with InterAssure is for three years with a two year renewal option at the end of the third year.  The cost for the initial year is $170,000.
