The State of Lithium
In case you didn’t know, Lithium is the key ingredient of rechargeable batteries used in everything from cell phones to electric cars and immense electrical energy storage banks. Most lithium is imported from other countries including China. However, here in California
the Salton Sea is a potentially huge source of the mineral. In typical legislative wisdom this appears to be a good reason for the legislature to tax lithium companies. The companies have warned that taxing extractions $400 to $800 per metric ton would make lithium from California more expensive than imports. The state of Lithium would disappear.
