Gun Insurance Mandate
A new law in San Jose mandates that gun owners in the city have insurance covering costs related to accidental gunshot injuries or deaths. The law does not require policies to cover criminal misuse of firearms. The San Jose law applies to all gun owners, regardless of whether they carry weapons in public. The President of the California Rifle & Pistol Association stated that his organization is preparing new legal challenges to San Jose on Second Amendment grounds. Depending on the success or failure of the San Jose measure it is almost a certainty that some lawmakers would propose such a mandate for the entire state.
