Dunbar Elementary School To Close

The Sonoma Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees have voted unanimously to discontinue using Dunbar Elementary as an elementary school after the 2022-23 school year.

Woodland Star Charter School has expressed interest in moving into the site.

Dunbar Elementary was established in 1857 which makes it one of the oldest elementary schools in California.  Dunbar had 229 students in the 2016-17 school year but was expected to have 81 in

2023-24 which is a 62% drop.  Closing Dunbar will result in the school district saving between

$854,000 and $1.1 Million.  The remaining elementary schools in the district are El Verano, Flowery, Prestwood and Sassarini.  The closest school to Dunbar is El Verano.
